Week 8 (17/11/2023):
No Lecture: Independent Learning week.
Week 9 (21/11/2023):
Realism: Takes subject matters of the ordinary and common world which we call "reality." It almost always takes a non-exotic and non-extraordinary subject matter and theme. There is no need to think outside of the box, as that is not "real."
Surrealism: A twist on Realism. It explores the subconscious mind, with subject matters concentrating on dream-images and often aims to distort the ordinary and what we call reality. It is a cultural movement focused on type of arts to express about the artist’s idea themselves. In this digital era surrealism is one of the top digital art styles. Surrealism defies logic. Dreams and the workings of the subconscious mind inspire surrealistic art(French for "super-realism") filled with strange images.
Characteristics of Surrealism include:
-Dream-like scenes and symbolic images
-Unexpected, illogical juxtapositions
-Bizarre assemblages of ordinary objects
-Primitive or child-like designs
What is After Effects?
Adobe After Effects is a 2.5D animation software used for animation, visual effects, and motion picture compositing.
After Effects is used in film, TV, and web video creation.
This software is used in the post-production phase, and has hundreds of effects that can be used to manipulate imagery. This allows you to combine layers of video and images into the same scene.
Adobe After Effects takes a different approach for creating movement. Motion graphics animation works by manipulating vector and rasterized art to create and tell a story. You can integrate physical based media as well through photographs and videography.
Week 11 (5/12/2023):
Final Project Consultation.
2. Instructions & Tasks
-Create a keyframe animation to the layers using Position (P), Scale (S) & Masking path.
-Render output: Quicktime (.MOV) or .MP4
-Upload your exercise into your Youtube Channel.
This exercise was to introduce us to the interface of After Effects for our upcoming final projects. We covered the basic animations by changing the position, scale, speed, and other methods.

2. Write a summary about your idea:
Idea 1: “Sea Phones”; a combination of seashells and earphones.
As kids, we always picked up seashells and put them next to our ears to hear the “sounds of the ocean”. These sounds we hear through the shells are actually air vibrations at frequencies due to the shell’s shape, creating the wave-like sounds. This idea is basically a metaphor for that experience.
Idea 2: “Brush Pen” a combination of a paint brush and an ink pen.
Brush pens are a type of ink pens that is shaped as a brush, but is not actually a brush. In this idea, I quite literally combine a normal ink pen and a traditional paint brush in one.
Idea 3: “Oven-case”; a combination of an oven and a suitcase. It’s an easily portable oven that can also carry storage for convenience.
