Week 5 (24/10/2023)

Exposure: In photography, exposure is the amount of light which reaches your camera sensor or film.

The main parts of the camera: (The camera body is a light proof box.)

  1. Camera body:

  • Shutter

  • Image sensor

  • LCD screen

  1. Camera lens:

  • Aperture/ Iris

Focal Length:  The shorter the focal length, the wider the angle of view and vice-versa. Measured in mm.

Depth of Field: The proportion of the image that is reasonably sharp and in focus. The smaller the aperture you use, the greater the depth of field.

Wide angle lens is especially useful for landscape photography or street photography. With wide angle lenses, almost everything is in focus, unless your subject is very close to the lens.

2. Instructions & Tasks

Project 1B - Part 1 Heart Mansion (Week 5)

For this assignment in photoshop, we used the following:

  1. Quick Selection Tool

  2. Layer Mask

  3. Filters

  4. Color Correction

In part 1a, we are instructed to subtract the background of the Shazam image and paste it to the mansion image, and make it blend in as much as possible.

First, I used the magic wand tool to remove the background from the shazam image.

Then I paste Shazam into the background image, resize it, and match the colors with the background. I changed the contrast, hues, and brightness of the image to match it.

Then I duplicate the Shazam image, flip it vertically, and blur it for the reflection.

Project 1B - Part 2 (Week 5)

For part 2, I applied the same steps in part 1 but with our own image.

3. Reflections

Experience

For this task, we had to take our own image to fit into the mansion background image. So I had to find an environment suitable to take a picture in so the lighting would match as well.

Observations

I observed how the shadow is typically casted when you look at where the light source is and how strong it is. I needed to use this because I shaded the shadows in myself since we are inserting another photo into a photo, I needed to make them blend in as realistically as possible.

Findings

I found ways to edit and adjust colors in photoshop, through the curves and color adjustments.
