Project 2: Animated Infographic

Use the assets from Project 1 Instructable Infographic poster into a 60-second motion graphic. Once again, capture the aesthetics and narrative of the poster with movements, SFX, and music.

Requirement: Max 60  seconds infographic video 720p: 1280x720 pixels (H26/mp4) published on YouTube (set to Unlisted)

Before starting my motion graphic, I searched on references for good animated infographics and what software options I have to choose from. I initially thought of working on Adobe After Effects, but I ended up with Adobe Express because the tools were better equipped for making infographics.

To have an initial basis or starting point, I used one of the existing templates to guide me with how the software works, as this is my first time using Express. However, it was very easy and simple to navigate with. I got the hang of it very quickly, and used my own assets and illustrations from the Project 1 instructable poster.

I drew additional illustrative icons for the infographic video for more visuals that I haven't included in the poster. I illustrated each of the ingredients on Adobe Illustrator.

After adding all the animations and finishing up all the scenes on Express, I added the background music and SFX using Microsoft Clipchamp. I searched up for royalty free music and sound effects I could use for this project, which I found on Mixkit

2. Reflections

Working on the animated infographic video was an enjoyable experience to say the least. I learned a lot of new things; firstly, it was my first time using the software Adobe Express. At first, since it was very new to me, I was a bit lost with navigating the interface, but after getting a hang of it, it was fairly simple to use yet very effective. I will definitely incorporate this software more in my work when it comes to simpler infographic animations.

Comparing Express with After Effects, AE is definitely more versatile and you can do much more complicated work with it because of all the features is provides. But with complexity comes a complicated interface, which is still difficult for me to navigate till now. Express, however, has limited features so you can't experiment much with it, but it does have a very friendly interface.

I didn't have prior experience with video and sound editing beforehand, so this project made me learn a bit more regarding that. The background music, right sound effects, nailing the timing, and so on. The editing process is tedious, but the end result makes it all worthwhile.
